I recently worked on this fun little music video. The brief was to take some green screen footage of the band’s lead members and find a treatment that works with the ethos and feel of the song. Since there was not a lot of source footage, I settled on blending the action with various archive reel footage, somewhat like we’re channel flipping a TV.
In some places, our protagonist simply overlays the archive footage. In other cases, I composited him into the shot. In the breakdown, the rapper starts ‘inside’ the footage and walks ‘through’ the fourth wall, a little like the famous scene from the movie The Ring. I re-timed some of the characters in the archive footage to look like they are mouthing the lyrics. Finally, I created some rather psychedelic sequences for the guitar solo and final chorus, just because 🙂
